At the beginning of the process of creation, Lord Brahma created the ‘Four Kumaras’ or the ‘Chatursana’. As the Four Kumaras were born from the mind by just a desire (manas) of Brahma they are referred to as his Manasaputras. Their names are : Sanaka, Sanandana, Sanatana and Sanat Kumara.
When the four Kumaras came into existence, they were all embodiments of pure qualities. They did not have any sign of negative qualities like proud, anger, attachment, lust, material desires (Kaam, Krodh, Lobh, Moh, Ahankaar etc). Now Lord Brahma had created these four Kumaras so that they could help in the process of creation. However, the Kumaras refused his order to procreate and instead devoted themselves to God and celibacy (brahmacarya). They requested their father for the boon of remaining perpetually five years old. Due to the boon from their father Brahma and the strength of their tapa, the Four Kumaras looked like 5 year old. Jaya and Vijaya, the gate keepers of the Vaikuntha stopped the Kumaras at the gate, thinking them to be children. They told the Kumaras that Shri Vishnu is resting and that they cannot see them now. Sanat Kumars replied Lord love His devotees and are always available to for His devotees. You are no one to stop us from seeing our dear Lord. But Jay Vijay didn't understood their point and kept on arguing for long time. Though Sanat Kumars are very pure and have no trigunas of Maya in them (Sato, Rajo, Tamo) but by the plan of Lord to teach His gate keepers a lesson, He circulated anger in pure hearts of Sanat Kumars. The enraged Kumaras cursed both the Dwara Palas, the gate keepers Jaya and Vijaya, that they would have to give up their divinity and born as mortals on Earth and live there.
When Jaya and Vijaya were cursed by the Sanat Kumaras at the gateway of Vaikunthaloka, Shri Vishnu appeared before them and the gatekeepers requested Shri Vishnu to lift the curse of the Kumaras. Shri Vishnu says that curse of Kumaras cannot be reverted. Instead, He gives Jaya and Vijaya two options. The first option is to take seven births on Earth as a devotee of Vishnu, while the second is to take three births as His enemy. After serving either of these sentences, they can re-attain their stature at Vaikuntha and be with Him permanently. Jaya and Vijaya cannot bear the thought of staying away from Vishnu for seven lives, they agree to the second option to become enemies. In the first birth as enemy to Shri Vishnu, Jaya and Vijaya were born as Hiraneyaksha and Hiraneyakashyipu in Satya Yuga. Hiranyaksha was an asura, the son of Diti and Kashyapa rishi. He was slain by the Lord Vishnu after he (Hiranyaksha) took the Earth to the bottom of what has been described as the "Cosmic Ocean". Lord Vishnu assumed the Avatar of a boar - Varaha and dove into the ocean to lift the Earth, in the process slaying Hiranyaksha who was obstructing Him. The battle lasted one thousand years. He had an elder brother named Hiranyakashipu, who after having undertaken penances which made him incredibly powerful and invincible unless several conditions were met, was later slain by Lord Narasimha, another incarnation of Shri Vishnu.
In the next Treta yuga - Jaya and Vijaya were born as Ravana and Kumbhakarna, and were killed by Lord Vishnu in His forms as Ramachandra and Lakshmana.
At the end of the Dwapara Yuga - Jaya and Vijaya were born their third birth as Shishupala and Dantavakra (an ally of Jarasandha, a friend of Shishupala and an enemy of Vasudeva Krishna) and Lord Krishna appreared Himself along with Balarama and killed them. Therefore, two attendants of the Lord in Vaikuntha named Jaya and Vijaya became Hirakyakasipu and Hiranyakka in Satya-yuga, Ravana and Kumbhakarna in the Treta-yuga, and as Shishupala and Dantavakra at the end of Dvapara-yuga. Because of their fruitive acts, Jaya and Vijaya agreed to become the Lord's enemies, and when killed in that mentality, they attained salvation in oneness.
Offering food to Shri Krishna before eating – Krishna Prasadam
Prasadam literally means “mercy” and devotees of ISKCON use this term to describe pure vegetarian food that has been offered to Lord Krishna. Food that has been offered to the Deities in the temple is known as maha-prasadam.
Most food contains karma which binds us to the cycle of birth and death because although it may be vegetarian one may still harm other living entities in the process of obtaining it: The farmer may accidentally kill insects during the cultivation of crops or the plants may feel some pain when they are uprooted. However, when the food is prepared for the pleasure of Krishna He accepts the love and devotion present in the offering and removes all sins from it. The karma present in the food is therefore transformed into spiritual energy. Honoring (eating) this sanctified prasadam is the basis of bhakti-yoga and helps one to make tangible spiritual advancement. Sharing and distributing prasadam is also very important!
What can we offer to Krishna?
Krishna explains in the Bhagavad-gita that “if one offers me with love and devotion a leaf, a flower, fruit, or water, I will accept it.” Krishna does not accept meat, fish or eggs. Onions, garlic and caffeine are also not offered because they cause disturbance to the mind and are therefore not beneficial for meditation and spiritual life. One should use fresh, natural ingredients as far as possible. One should also pay special attention to all labels of items bought in supermarkets: cheese may contain non-vegetarian rennet, some yogurts contain gelatin and many non-vegetarian products are hidden behind e-numbers, preservatives, flavours and colours.
How to prepare an offering for Krishna
Cleanliness is next to Godliness, so one should keep the kitchen very clean. As the food is to be offered to Krishna, the Supreme Enjoyer, one should not taste anything before the offering is made. The most essential ingredients are love and devotion, so while cooking one should remember that one is cooking for Krishna’s pleasure. Listening to a devotional songs or kirtans helps create a nice meditative mood in the kitchen.
Making an bhog offering to Krishna
A portion of each preparation is arranged in Krishna’s personal plate and bowls. Fresh water is offered in His cup. A Tulasi leaf is placed on each preparation.
Beginners may chant the maha-mantra Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare three times.
For a more elaborate offering the prayers below are chanted three times each while ringing a bell. Although the offering is made to Krishna, it is done through the spiritual master, Srila Prabhupada, so we begin with prayers to his lotus feet:
1. Prayer to Srila Prabhupada:
nama om visnu-padaya krishna-presthaya bhutale,
srimate bhaktivedanta-swamin iti namine
namas te sarasvate deve gaura-vani-pracharine, nirvishesha sunyavadi paschyatya desha tarine

"I offer my respectful obeisances unto His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, who is very dear to Lord Krishna, having taken shelter at His lotus feet. Our respectful obeisances are unto you, O spiritual master, servant of Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Goswami. You are kindly preaching the message of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and delivering the western countries, which are filled with impersonalism and voidism."
2. Prayer to Lord Chaitanya:
namo maha-vadanyaya, krishna-prema-pradaya te
krishnaya krishna-chaitanya, namne gaura-twishe namah नमो महा-वदान्याय, कृष्ण प्रेम प्रदायते। कृष्णाय कृष्ण चैतन्य, नामने गोर-तविशे नमः ॥
"O most munificent incarnation! You are Krishna Himself appearing as Shri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. You have assumed the golden colour of Srimati Radharani and You are widely distributing pure love of Krishna. We offer our respectful obeisances unto You."
3. Prayer to Lord Krishna:
namo brahmanya-devaya go-brahmana-hitaya ca
jagad-dhitaya krishnaya govindaya namo namah
नमो ब्रह्माण्ड दवाये, गो ब्राह्मण हिताय च । जगत धिताय कृष्णाय, गोविन्दाय नमो नमः॥
"I offer my respectful obeisances unto Lord Krishna, who is the worshipable Deity for all brahmanas, the well-wisher of the cows and the brahmanas and the benefactor of the whole world. I offer my repeated obeisances to the Personality of Godhead, known as Krishna and Govinda."
After offering the food to the Lord, we wait some minutes for Him to relish the preparations. Then the food is transferred from Krishna’s plate back into their respective recipients. Krishna’s plates need to be washed before the prasadam is served.
A special prayer is recited by devotees before honoring the prasadam, to thank the Lord for his mercy.

The senses throw the soul into this ocean of material sense enjoyment and, of all the senses, the tongue is most voracious and uncontrollable; it is very difficult to conquer the tongue in this world. O brothers! Lord Krishna is very kind to us and has given us such nice prasada, just to control the tongue. Now let us take this prasada to our full satisfaction and glorify Their Lordships, Shri Shri Radha and Krishna and, in love, call for the help of Lord Chaitanya and Prabhu Nityananda."

Lord Narsingh is incarnation of Shri Krishna in the age of Satayug
King
Uthanapad had two wives. They were Suneethi and Suruchi. Sunithi had a son,
Dhruv and Surichi’s son was Uthaman. Sunithi was elder and a mature woman
leading a life of Dharma or righteousness.
Suruchi was young and proud and lived with vanity of her own appearance.
The king too
was completely under a spell of Suruchi’s charm and fascinated by her that he
gave less attention to Suneethi and Dhruv. Suneethi was aware of this, so she
stood apart with aloof dignity. She led a religious life of honour. Suruchi
never let the king keep away from her and she started involving in the issues
of the court and kingdom.
One day after
the court was adjourned King Uthanapad was spending his time with Suruchi.
Dhruv and Uthaman were playing in front. Suddenly Uthaman ran to the king and sat
on his lap. The king held him close and embraced him with fatherly love.
Watching this Dhruv too ran to sit on his father’s lap. But Suruchi pulled him
and threw him on the floor shouting, “ Go away. If you were to be loved by your
father, you had to be born as my son. You were not fortunate to have a mother
like me. You can now go and pray to God and get the blessing to be born again.
There is no way otherwise to sit on your father’s lap.”
The king
didn’t utter a word, so Dhruv ran to his mother crying.
Suneethi
consoled her son and asked, “What went wrong, my son? Why are you crying?”
“When I tried
to sit on my father’s lap, Suruchi maa scolded me.” Dhruv explained.
Suneethi
“Your clothes are dirty from playing. You haven’t taken a bath. That can be the
reason for her denial.”
Dhruv “But
Uthaman too was playing with me. His sweat and dirt was wiped by father.”
Suneethi
“What did she tell you?”
Dhruv “She
said, If I had to sit on father’s lap, I have to be born as her son, and she asked
me to do tapasya for that.”
Suneethi
“What she said is right.Only with God’s blessings, we get to be fortunate. “
Dhruv started
walking, ”Mother, I too want the attain that supreme place near my father, so
I’ll do the tapasya.”
Suneethi
adviced him saying he was too young to go through such hardships as Tapasya and
asked him to come back.
Dhruv
“Don’t stand on my way, mother. But
bless me so that I get success. As you said, it’s God who protects all, He will
protect me too.”
Dhruv touched
his mother’s feet and asked her not to cry. With her blessings he set out to
the forest with his mind concentrated only on his aim.
He didn’t
feel any hunger or thirst. Dhruv just walked onward. On the way he met Narada
Maharshi.
Narada, “Where
are you going my child?”
Dhruv “I want
the darshan of God. I want His blessings.”
“Are you not
too young to face such hardships all alone?” Narada asked.
“With your
blessings I will get Bhagavat darshan, “Dhruv was determined.
Narada,
delighted with this young boy’s determination, blessed him, “Anyone with utmost
faith and devotion will surely get Bhagavat Darshan. You are a blessed child.
May the Lord appear before you and give the boon you want”. Think of Sri
Narayanan and chant the Divya mantra, “Om Namo Bhagavathe Vasudevaya”. The Lord
is very kind and He will surely hear you.”
With this
Narada disappeared.
Dhruv went
ahead chanting the mantra. Then he reached Madhuvan. He found a place suitable
for Tapasya. He started his Upavas. In the beginning, he would take water and
fruits, then as days went by, he discarded all food and water.
His vigorous
Tapasya shook the world. There was disturbance in all living things. Devas
sought refuge and requested Lord Vishnu to help them. Lord was pleased with
Dhruv’s Bhakti and decided to appear before him.
Lord Vishnu
reached Madhuvan. The breeze touched the
trees, they showered the flowers all over the forest and the birds sang in
their sweetest sound. Peacocks danced with their beautiful feather spread out.
The whole world filled with a divine fragrance.
Lord Vishnu touched Dhruv and he opened his eyes from Tapasya.
Lord Vishnu
asked Dhruv, “I’m pleased with your Bhakti, my child, what boon shall I give
you? “
But Dhruv was unable to utter a single world after looking at the Lord. He was looking at Lord Vishnu with tears in his eyes. He was feeling like embracing the Lord and don't letting him go. He was feeling like this is the end to all his desires and ambitions. Dhruv laid down and washes Lord's feet with his tears. Lord Vishnu holds Dhruv & takes him on his own lap and heals his burns and hunger. Dhruv said: "I came to the forests in search of glass pieces (for fulfilling worldly desires) but attained diamonds (the sight of Lord Vishnu) in return”. Then he thought all his previous desires for worldly pleasures were just because of his ignorance. Real happiness is in loving the Lord Krishna. Bhishma is one of the 8 souls of a certain group
of ascended beings calls the Vasus.
One day all 8 Vasus and
their wives were playing and having a picnic, when one of their wives saw a
very beautiful Cow grazing. She wanted her husband to capture that Cow and
bring it to her. The Cow (Nandni) belonged to a great and powerful sage (Holly
guru) called Vashishta. And people generally did not intervene or disturb such
sages. It has been known that sages spend most of their times in spiritual work
and meditation, and thus naturally accrue powers, and if harmed or insulted,
have a tendency to curse the offenders.
The wife of one Vasu kept
insisting that she wanted the Cow, so eventually her husband and his 7 fellow
Vasus caught the cow and took it home. When the sage returned and found
out what had happened, he immediately cursed the offending Vasus to be born on
earth (which is seen as a punishment for ascended beings!)
The 8 Vasus ran to the
sage and begged for forgiveness. The sage softened his curse and said the 7 who
aided will have short lives on Earth and return, but the one who caught the Cow
must pay for his bigger role in the crime, and must live a longer time on
Earth.
The 8 Vasus then approached Ganga Devi (river
Goddess of the sacred river Ganges), and requested the river-goddess Ganga to
be their `earthly mother’ and on being born, to kill them so that they may only
live a very short time on Earth. She agreed.
And so it was she – who met the King
Shantanu and married him and bore his sons. And on each child being born (one
of the souls of the 7 Vasus), she drowned them, so that their soul may
immediately be set free from long and troubled life on Earth, and return to
their ascended planes. The 8th Son (soul of the Vasu who had stolen the cow)
was not killed on birth (by the natural and fated intervention of the King). He
became a great warrior Bhishma.

Krishna’s flute is the symbol of Freedom or Pranava. The sound of this divine flute thrilled the heart with delight and instilled new life and joy. It produced God-intoxication in all beings and infused life even in insentient objects. The sweetness of the music was unsurpassed. He who heard once the music of Krishna’s flute cared not for the nectar of heaven or the bliss of Moksha. Krishna has preached Prem (love) through His flute.
Once Radha asked Krishna:
"O my dear! Why do You love the flute more than me? What virtuous actions has it done so that it can remain in close contact with Your lips? Kindly explain to me, my Lord, the secret of this. I am eager to hear".
Shri Krishna said:
"This flute is very dear to Me. It has got some wonderful virtue. It has emptied off its egoism before I began to play. It has made its inner hollow quite void and I can bring out any kind of tune, Raga or Ragini, to My pleasure and sweet will. If you also behave towards Me in exactly the same manner as this flute, if you remove your egoism completely and make perfect self-surrender, then I shall also love you in the same manner as I love this flute".
This body also is the flute of Lord Krishna in the macrocosm. If you can destroy your egoism and make total self-surrender, unreserved Atma-Nivedan to the Lord, He will play on this body-flute nicely and bring out melodious tunes. Your will will become merged in His Will. He will work unhampered through your instruments, body, mind and Indriyas. You can rest very peacefully then without cares, worries and anxieties. You can watch the play of the universe as a Sakshi. Then your Sadhana (devotional service) will go on by leaps and bounds, because the Divine Will or Divine Grace itself will work through you. You need not do any Sadhana at all.
It was Queen Draupadi's faith in Lord Krishna that caused Him to miraculously appear before her and save her and her husbands from being cursed by Yogi Durvasa. Prince Duryadhana learned that the five Pandava
princes and their wife Draupadi were dwelling as happily in the forest
as they previously had in the Kingdom.Suddenly the righteous and famous yogi
Durvasa arrived at Kurukshetra with his ten thousand disciples. After
seeing the quick-tempered ascetic arrive, Duryodhana and his brothers
yearned to make pandavas unhappy by causing them harm. Durodhana
personally waited on the sage as a servant and provided him with a
very respectful reception. Duryodhana served him painstakingly both day
and night.
After testing Duryodhana in this way for a while
and seeing that he was neither incensed nor irritated, the peppery sage
became amiably disposed towards him and said, "I have the power
to give you three blessings. You may ask for whatever are closest to
your heart. May you have good fortune? Remembering what had been decided
earlier, the evil-minded Duryodhana said, "King Yudishthira
is the oldest and the best of our generation. That religious man is
presently dwelling in the forest with his brothers. I'd like you
to be his guest, just as you and your disciples have been mine for a
while. If you wish to do me a favor, then I'd like you to visit him right
after his fine, lovely wife Draupadi has served food to the Brahmans, her husbands and herself,
and has laid down to rest.Sage Durvasa then departed with his followers. Duryodhana felt that he had accomplished all his purposes. For he knew
that Draupadi could not provide food for Durvasa's ten thousand
disciples after she had taken her meal. Though the pot she cooked in was
given to her by the sun god and mystically produced unlimited
quantities of food, it did so only before Draupadi took her meal. But
once she ate, the pot would become empty- and stay empty till her
next meal. Holding Karna's hand, Duryodhana displayed intense pleasure. One day while the Pandavas were relaxing and
Draupdi was lying down after having eaten, Yogi Durvasa, with his ten
thousand disciples, arrived in that forest area. When the celebrated
and honorable King Yudhishthira noted this, he and his brothers
proceeded to greet them. He folded his palms, and offered the holy men
proper and respectful greetings. Then he said, "Please feel
free to go to the stream now, take your bath and return to our place and give
us an opportunity to serve a holy sage like you. Not knowing how Yudhishthira would adequately
feast him and his disciples, the pure sage, along with his followers,
proceeded to the river and began bathing.Princess Draupadi, who was devoted to her husbands,
began to worry about how she would provide a feast for the holy men.
Because she had already eaten her meal and the mystical pot would
thus produce no more food, she would be unable to. Thus, full of anxiety,
Draupadi prayed to Lord Krishna, "O Krishna, son of Devaki;
O Vasudeva, Lord of the universe; Your power is indefatigable and you
dissipate the obstacles of persons who bow down to you. You are
the Super soul, the creator and deliverer of the distressed. You are the
highest of the high, and unlimited being; O Lord you are always kind,
You are the greatest light and the essence of the cosmos. Your face is
pointed in every direction; they call you the highest source and the
resting place of all opulence's. O Lord of the Gods, when you protect
someone, he is not afraid of evil. As you once protected me from
Dushashana, who tried to strip off my Sari before an assembly of men,
please free me now from this plight.
That time Krishna was busy in Dwarka. However
realizing Draupadi's difficulties, Krishna instantly arrived at
the forest where the Pandavas were staying. Seeing Krishna, Draupadi
joyfully bowed to Him and told Him about the unexpected visit of
the holy men as well as all other things. After hearing Draupadi's
problem, Krishna said to her, "I am very hungry"; please
give me some food immediately. Then you may attend to your work."
Hearing this, Draupadi became bewildered and replied, "the pot that
the sun god gave me stays full only until I finish my meal; and since
I've finished my meal, there's nothing left." The lotus-eyed and lovable
Krishna said, "Draupadi, this is not the time for joking. I'm suffering from hunger. Go and get the pot quickly
and show it to me." Draupadi returned with the pot, and gave it to Krishna. He gazed into it intently and noticed that there was a particle of rice and vegetable stuck to its rim. He took the morsel between his fingers and ate it. Krishna who had long arms and who relieved
the suffering said to Bhima, "Go quickly and invite the holy men
here for Meals!". Bhima immediately proceeded towards the stream
where the ascetics were bathing.
Meanwhile, the holy men were in the river rubbing
their bodies and looking as though their stomachs were filled. As they
came out of the water they looked at one another curiously. Turning to
Durvasa, one said, Master, our stomachs feel full. King Yudhishtra
has uselessly prepared a meal for us. What's the best thing for us to do
now? We'll commit a terrible offence against that royal saint. I advise
you not to return to the Pandavas but to run away quickly!"
When Bhima reached the river, he did not see
any one there. He therefore searched all the bathing spots. As he did,
he learned from the resident holy men that Durvasa's disciples had
gone away. Bhima then returned to his camp and told Yudhishtra what had
occurred. Nevertheless, the Pandavas, still expecting the holy
men to return, waited for some time.
When Krishna saw them thinking in this way,
sighing deeply and frequently, He suddenly appeared before them and
said, "While I was aware of your danger from that hot tempered
sage, Draupadi prayed to me to come here; so I came quickly. But now you
have no reason to fear Durvasa. He's scared of your ascetic powers;
thus, he's gone away. Righteous men like you never have to worry. Allow
me to return home now". When the Pandavas and Draupadi heard
Lord Krishna's words, their minds became relaxed, cured of the fever of
anxiety. Yudhishtra said, "Krishna by your help we were freed from
this unsolvable difficulty, just as persons drowning in the vast ocean
reach the shore safely by means of a boat". Thank you for your help"
Thus, the scheme of the evil Duryodhana and his
brothers was baffled by Lord Krishna's mercy. By
developing such faith in the Supreme Lord, we can easily obtain
His valuable grace and thereby increase our wisdom and virtue manifold. Also read story about how Lord Vishnu saved Gajendra: http://krishnaseva.blogspot.com/2014/04/story-of-gajendra-and-lord-vishnu.html
